A Catholic grammar school in north Belfast has been targeted with an explosive device.
A British army bomb disposal experts defused a pipe bomb-type device at the gates of Dominican College in Fortwilliam Park.
A PSNI spokeswoman said no damage was caused to the school after the device, which contained firework material, was made safe. The security alert followed a sectarian arson attack on the school just over a year ago.
A sixth-floor kitchen and the gardener's store were destroyed, and several other classrooms were damaged in the blaze in August 2002.
Elsewhere, Sinn Féin claimed three nationalist youths were hurt when loyalists threw fireworks during clashes in south Belfast.
Councillor Mr Alex Maskey called on everyone in the McClure Street area, off the Ormeau Road to work to defuse community tensions.
A police spokeswoman confirmed there were reports of trouble in the area and that two groups of youths had gathered and appeared to be taunting each other. No arrests were made.
