Extradition of escaper ordered

A Dublin court yesterday ordered the extradition to Northern Ireland of a Maze prison escaper

A Dublin court yesterday ordered the extradition to Northern Ireland of a Maze prison escaper. Judge Peter Smithwick at the Dublin District Court ordered that Anthony Kelly should be handed over to the RUC.

But he told Kelly he has 15 days to lodge an appeal to the High Court against his order. Kelly's lawyers indicated he would appeal.

Kelly (36), an unemployed father of two and native of Garvan Place, Derry, with an address at Glenard Park, Letterkenny, Co Donegal, was arrested at his home last month.

Kelly, who escaped from the Maze in the mass break-out by 38 IRA prisoners in September 1983, is wanted for extradition to Northern Ireland for the murder of a reserve RUC officer, David Stanley Wray, in Derry on May 20th, 1979.
