An Irishman who won more than €150,000 on a British television game show last weekend is expected to be the subject of extradition proceedings from Britain to the Republic.
Mr Michael Furlong, previously of Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, faces charges of dangerous driving causing the death of Natalie Freeman (15) in March 2002.
Ms Freeman was a passenger in the car allegedly driven by Mr Furlong which hit a wall near Bagnalstown, Co Carlow, in the early hours of the morning.
Two other passengers escaped with minor injuries.
Mr Furlong, who subsequently failed to turn up in court to face a charge of dangerous driving in connection with the incident, appeared on a Channel 4 game show, Boys and Girls, last weekend.
The Garda Press office confirmed that a bench warrant had been issued for Mr Furlong's arrest and that if he returned to the Republic he would be arrested.
However, sources also indicated that following Mr Furlong's television appearance, an extradition attempt was likely.
As part of his appearance, Mr Furlong was allowed to keep goods he bought as part of a spending spree in the company of two women picked from the audience.
The goods included mobile phones, clothes and a caravan.
The 12-part Boys and Girls show features 100 men competing against 100 women for the prize of £100,000 which the winner must spend in a week.
Extradition agreements exist between the Republic and a number of other states where statutes and penalties are broadly similar in each jurisdiction.
