The funding for the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General's office is 18 per cent, or £861,000, less than the figure for 1999. The total figure is £3.8 million.
The drop is mostly explained by the cost of the inquiry into DIRT and the financial institutions, carried out by the office for the Committee of Public Accounts. .
