A €4 quick-pick ticket landed the Bingham family from Dundalk, Co Louth, a Lotto jackpot win of over €3.5 million at the weekend.
The ticket was purchased by Gerry Bingham in Carroll Newsagents and Book Shop in Longwalk Shopping Centre on Friday.
Gerry and Marie Bingham, along with sons Alan and Gerard and daughter Niamh, their partners, and five grandchildren Laura, Sam, Emily, Alan and Nathan, went to the National Lottery offices in Dublin yesterday to pick up their winnings.
It was not Mr Bingham’s first Lotto win.
“The first time I did the Lotto me and a friend from work won £700 between us, so I’ve always tried to win again, but this is something else. Race pigeons are my hobby, and I like to buy pigeon magazines and do the Lotto when I’m there, but I wouldn’t always get into town, so it was just lucky now that I did.”
He says he will donate money to two causes.
“My sister Marion died at the age of 58 in July after fighting cancer for 13 years. We ran a charity night two weeks ago and we raised over €4,000, which we donated to the Dóchas centre and the Northland Hospice in Drogheda as they were so good to her.”
