Beet growers meeting in Cahir, Co Tipperary late last night were expected to ratify a deal brokered by the Tβnaiste, Ms Harney and the Minister for Agriculture, Mr Walsh, to end the Irish Sugar dispute.

Following four hours of talks between Greencore and the IFA, Mr Walsh announced a five-year peace deal. Growers would receiving a €1.50 increase per tonne this year, increasing to €2.40 next year with €0.40 of the increase bonus-based.

A statement from Irish Sugar welcomed the likely resolution of the dispute.
