The Department of Agriculture has extended the closing date for acceptance of applications for BSE compensation to this day week because of the number of applicants.

Farmers are to receive EU funded payments for cattle sold since March 25th, when the BSE crisis drove down the price of animals. Under this scheme beef farmers will receive direct payments of nearly £14 million.
