A FATHER of three was killed in a house fire in Co Tipperary early yesterday.

A FATHER of three was killed in a house fire in Co Tipperary early yesterday.

The victim, named locally as Mike Kennedy (53), died after a blaze broke out at a house on Grange Road, Ballina, Co Tipperary. The fire was discovered at about 2.20am yesterday.

There were three adults in the house at the time. Two women managed to escape but Mr Kennedy was trapped inside.

His remains were later discovered by the fire service and removed to the Mid Western Regional Hospital, where a postmortem was carried out yesterday.

Gardaí at Killaloe Garda station are investigating the cause of the fire. The house was gutted in the blaze. The scene was preserved yesterday to allow for a technical examination to be carried out.

The Office of the State Pathologist was also notified.
