Tennis:Six-time champion Roger Federer defeated Adrian Mannarino - winner over Ireland's Conor Niland - while second seed Novak Djokovic defeated Kevin Anderson as both players followed Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray into the third round of Wimbledon.

Federer, seeded third, won 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 against the 22-year-old French player who is ranked 55th in the world.

Federer is vying for his seventh Wimbledon title, which would tie a record held by William Renshaw and Pete Sampras. He's already won a men's record of 16 Grand Slam titles.

It was the  first time Federer (29) played under the closed roof of Wimbledon.

Last year, he failed to reach the final on the grass courts of the All England Club for the first time since 2003.

Djokovic, who began 2011 with a 41-match unbeaten streak, looked in imperious form when he hammered Jeremy Chardy in the first round and started off in rampant fashion today, winning the first five games.

He eventually defeated Anderson 6-3 6-4 6-2, though the latter broke the Australian Open champion in the second set but he recovered to clinch the set before easing home to victory despite a late wobble in the third.

After his thrashing of Chardy, the big crowd assembled on Court One were expecting a repeat performance from Djokovic and they were not disappointed early on.

The Serb fired down an ace to take the first game before breaking to love in the second after the two big hitters traded blows in a long baseline rally. It was soon 5-0 after another Djokovic break as Anderson could not match the two-time Grand Slam winner's powerful groundstrokes.

The 6ft 8in Anderson hit back though, winning his first game, if only thanks to a couple of rare errors from Djokovic, who tried to take the set with two cheeky drop shots. Buoyed by holding, Anderson broke Djokovic with a flat forehand but he responded by holding to take the first set 6-3.

Djokovic missed a chance to break in the fifth game of the second set, but soon made amends on Anderson's next service game. Anderson refused to buckle and made it 5-4 to force Djokovic to serve out for the set, which the second seed did after a brief wobble.

Djokovic looked back to his best at the start of the third set, breaking Anderson with a volley that followed an entertaining rally. The three-time semi-finalist won his next two service games and had another chance to break in the fifth, but hit a forehand long.

Anderson then squandered three break points in the sixth game as Djokovic upped his power and precision. With the score now at 4-2, Djokovic looked to turn the screw with a final break and he got it after forcing Anderson into a miscued forehand on the baseline.

Serving for the match, Djokovic seemed to suffer an unlikely bout of nerves, double-faulting twice before handing Anderson a chance to get back into the match with two break points.

The Serb sent home a winning smash at the net to save the first and did the same from the back of the court to save the second. He then regained his composure, forcing Anderson to hit the net with a strong forehand to set up a likely third round clash with Marcos Baghdatis.
