GAA:Brendan Fennelly has stepped down as Laois hurling manager and becomes the fourth inter-county manager to resign in recent weeks.
Fennelly’s decision comes in the wake of their 34 point mauling at the hands of Cork at O’Moore Park in last month’s preliminary round of the championship.
Despite a decent showing in the league to finish third in Division 2, the defeat to Cork was hard to take and Fennelly sensed his time was almost up.
Fennelly joins a growing list of managers to have left the inter-county scene this summer. Offaly’s Joe Dooley, Wexford’s Colm Bonnar and Clare’s Ger O'Loughlin have all resigned.
