Some local residents have strongly protested about the language used by performers and the behaviour of the crowds at the weekend's Mitchelstown Guinness Music Festival.

Residents said they were shocked and angered at the expletives coming from the stage during the performance by the internationally renowned rapper Eamon (playing with Coolio).

"We felt trapped in our houses where we couldn't even hear our televisions," one resident said.

Another who lives near New Square where the concert took place said he thought his ears would pop from the constant "boom, boom, boom".

The festival committee PRO, Ms Lillian Griffin, said while she was aware of complaints about the rapper, they decided to go ahead with his performance with all advertising accompanied by a "parental advisory" warning on posters and tickets.

Ms Griffin said she did hear there was negative feedback from residents, but there was positive feedback as well. The event had run smoothly.
