The chairman of Fianna Fáil's Standards in Public Life Committee, Mr Seamus Kirk, is to look at whether tax-defaulter TD, Mr Michael Collins, has broken party regulations.

In a statement issued this evening, Mr Kirk said he first became aware that Mr Collins had a tax liability when the Revenue Commissioner's this afternoon published their most recent list of settlements.

Mr Kirk said that when the investigation is complete the committee will take "whatever action is deemed appropriate under the authority of the Fianna Fáil national executive".

He said the party has supported and encouraged full compliance by all taxpayers and the Government had put in place a number of measures to strengthen the powers of the Revenue Commissioners to ensure tax compliance.
