A second subpoena may be issued to former Irish Nationwide chief executive Michael Fingleton to compel him to appear in front of an unfair dismissal case being heard by the Employment Appeals Tribunal.

Mr Fingleton contacted the tribunal to say he was “willing and eager” to attend the tribunal, but said he could not do so yesterday as he had to attend court in another jurisdiction, chairman Dermot MacCarthy said.

A subpoena was previously served on Mr Fingleton last July.

The tribunal is hearing the case of a former manager of one of the building society’s Monaghan branches, Brendan Beggan, who claims that he was unfairly dismissed by Irish Nationwide in 2009.
