A 17-year-old youth charged in connection with an arson attack in which two young Moyross Limerick children suffered serious burns was arrested on Halloween night for two alleged breaches of the Public Order Act, a court heard yesterday.

The Limerick teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was recently charged with intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to six-year-old Millie Murray, and her brother, Gavin (4), at Pineview Gardens, Moyross, on September 10th. He was granted bail but was back before Limerick District Court yesterday where he was charged with obstructing a garda in the course of his duties and provoking a breach of the peace in a Co Tipperary town on Tuesday night.

Superintendent Tony Cogan told Judge Tom O'Donnell yesterday that the State was objecting to bail on the grounds that the defendant was on bail in relation to a "serious matter" when Tuesday night's offences are alleged to have taken place. He said a further more serious charge under a new act relating to the handling of fireworks could be brought and that the Garda was currently in talks with the DPP about this matter.

Judge O'Donnell said he could only deal with matters that were before the court and there was no evidence that the accused had breached any of his earlier bail conditions.
