The DUP has accused the British government of capitulating to nationalists by deciding to end the tradition of firing royal salutes from the front of Stormont.

The new venue will be Hillsborough, the official residence of the Northern Secretary. In a statement, the Northern Ireland Office said it felt "in the light of devolution, it would be more appropriate for the salutes to be fired from an alternative location".

DUP MLA Mr Jim Shannon accused the government of "caving in to republican demands". Unionists were "bitterly disappointed and concerned" by the decision, he said.
