Five men have been arrested in connection with the murder of 14-year-old British schoolgirl Danielle Beccan.

Police in Nottingham said the suspects were brought to the Midlands city after they were stopped in central London on Monday evening.

Danielle was shot dead in the St Ann's area of Nottingham four days ago as she walked home from an annual city fair.

A Metropolitan police spokeswoman said the five were stopped by officers in Westminster and held on Monday night at two London police stations.

"Westminster officers carrying out a routine stop and search checks arrested five men in Grosvenor Road, SW1, at approximately 8.30pm Monday night," she said.

Police in Nottingham said the men arrived for questioning in the city shortly before 8pm but refused to give the ages or details of the suspects.

"Five men have been brought into custody in Nottingham. The men have been arrested in connection with the murder inquiry," said a Nottingham police spokeswoman.
