Gardaí in Dundalk, Co Louth, are investigating two incidents in the early hours of New Year's Day which resulted in five people needing hospital treatment.
The first one was in the Hoey's Lane area of the town where upwards of 20 people were involved in a melee in which four people were assaulted and taken to hospital.
The people involved are thought to have been attending one of two house parties in the area and the fracas broke out about 2am.
Four hours later, gardaí were called to a disturbance at Park Lane, close to the town centre where they found a young man with a stomach wound. The victim, who is in his early 20s and living in Dundalk, was discharged from hospital yesterday. In all cases, none of the injuries sustained was life-threatening.
Meanwhile the PSNI arrested a Dundalk man in his 20s in the early hours of New Year's Eve morning for road traffic offences.
He is believed to have driven across the Border after ramming two patrol cars which were parked outside the Garda station in Dundalk. The ramming took place at about 1.30am and left one of the cars with "substantial" damage. An hour later the PSNI in Newry, Co Down, stopped the car and arrested the driver for alleged driving offences.
