A Galway man who ate 50 "magic" mushrooms before donning his motorcycle helmet and lying in his neighbour's front lawn on his duvet, was likened to Flash Gordon by a judge yesterday.
Barry Conneely (27), Corrib Park, Newcastle, Galway, pleaded guilty before Galway District Court to being intoxicated at a nearby house in Hazel Park in the early hours of October 26th last.
Garda Fergus Gaughan got a call from Conneely's concerned housemate and, when he arrived at Hazel Park, he found Conneely in a "wired" state.
He was around the back of the house banging on widows and on the back door. Conneely had earlier flung his duvet, helmet and other "bits and bobs" into his neighbour's garden, the garda said.
Conneely said he had no alcohol consumed but he had eaten 50 magic mushrooms, which he had picked himself.
He had tried to impress girls staying in the house in Hazel Park by lying on his duvet on their lawn while wearing a helmet.
Conneely said the girls were amused but it was his housemate who had phoned the Garda Síochána.
"Who did you think you were? Flash Gordon?" Judge Michael Connellan asked him.
Advising Conneely to stay away from the hallucinogens in future, Judge Connellan fined him €75.
