Sunderland today confirmed the £10million double transfer swoop for Rangers forward Tore Andre Flo and Ipswich Town's Marcus Stewart.

Sunderland finally managed to push home their long-standing interest in Flo, the Norwegian international who was valued at £6.75 million.

Manager Peter Reid sees the forward, who had fallen out of favour at Rangers, as the ideal long-term replacement for the equally lanky Niall Quinn.

Flo exploded on to the English scene at Chelsea before winning a big money move to Rangers, but has struggled to make the same impact in Scotland.

With the additional capture of Stewart, Reid has bolstered his attacking strength after a frustrating summer when a host of deals fell through.

Stewart, who had joined Ipswich in a £2.75million move from Huddersfield, was a major hit in his first Premiership season, but struggled last term after a series of injuries and Ipswich were relegated.

Both Flo and Stewart signed three-year deals, the club said. Celtic midfielder Colin Healy is also in contact with Sunderland and Reid has already added Phil Babb - back in the Republic of Ireland squad - Sean Thornton and Thomas Myhre to his squad.
