GAA:Kilkenny's Aidan Fogarty could face three months on the sidelines after being stretchered off during yesterday's National League win over Offaly at Nowlan Park.
Fogarty was unfortunate to break a bone in his leg during the routine 1-27 to 1-19 win over Offaly, who in the process were relegated to Division 2 for next season.
Manager Brian Cody is counting the walking wounded for Richie Hogan and John Dalton also sustained injuries. Dalton’s injury came in the dying minutes and he too was brought to hospital with Fogarty.
It has fast become a selection headache for Cody ahead of the National League final on May 1st when they will take on Dublin, who reached a Division 1 final for the first time in 65 years.
Perhaps of greater concern is the timescale of recovery ahead of the Leinster SHC Championship opener on June 11th with so many key players out injured.
Henry Shefflin and John Tennyson have didn’t feature in this year’s league campaign, both made chance appearances in last September’s All-Ireland final despite cruciate ligament injuries.
Richie Power (hip) and Tommy Walsh (shoulder) are also sidelined with injury at present.
Elsewhere Derry’s Paddy Bradley could miss the entire Ulster SFC campaign after suffering a suspected cruciate ligament injury in a club match at the weekend between Glenullin and Bellaghy.
Derry take on Fermanagh in the provincial opener and forward Bradley would be sorely missed.
