Former Bishop of Meath dies at 75

The former Bishop of Meath, Dr John McCormack, has died at the age of 75

The former Bishop of Meath, Dr John McCormack, has died at the age of 75. Dr McCormack was Bishop of Meath from 1968 to his retirement in May, 1990. A past secretary of the Irish Bishops Conference, Dr McCormack was curate at Mullingar, Co Westmeath, from 1958 to 1968.

He was ordained in 1946 and did postgraduate studies at the Lateran University in Rome, where a degree in canon law was conferred on him. He became Bishop of Meath in succession to the late Bishop Kyne in 1968. He retired in May, 1990.
