Four young Chinese men appeared at Dublin District Court yesterday on charges relating to the false imprisonment of a Chinese man on Saturday.

Mr Xin Sun, Mr Hui Zhuang, Mr Chu Yang and Mr Yong Bing Zhao were charged under Section 15 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Persons Act.

Garda Gerard McEntee told Judge John Coughlan that the men were travelling in a car with a fifth man when gardaí stopped them on Moore Lane, Dublin, at 8 p.m. on Saturday. The 24-year-old man "cried out for help" and later made a statement that he had been falsely imprisoned, Garda McEntee said.

The men, all in their early 20s, were taken to Store Street station and charged under the Act.

Garda McEntee made an application to have the four men remanded in custody for a week. He said they should not be released because he was not happy with the addresses given.

He said Mr Hui Zhuang and Mr Chu Yang had given addresses but when they were checked out, the men did not seem to be living there. When they were re-arrested, they refused to give their real addresses, Garda McEntee said.

The other two men also refused to give their addresses to gardaí, he said.

The four men were remanded in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court at 10.30 a.m. on Friday.
