The Freedom of the City of Dublin was conferred on Bob Geldof and Ronnie Delany at a ceremony at the Mansion House this afternoon.

The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Cllr Catherine Byrne, who presided over the ceremony, nominated Geldof for his work as an anti-poverty campaigner over the past 20 years.

Delany, who won the gold in the 1,500 metres in 1956 Melbourne Olympics, was nominated for his contribution to Irish athletics.

Both men were presented with scrolls and crystal globes, chosen to symbolise the recipients' achievements on the world stage.
