Fresh appeal on man who went missing last year

Gardaí last night appealed for information about an English computer worker who went missing a year ago.

Gardaí last night appealed for information about an English computer worker who went missing a year ago.

Ian Fletcher (35), originally from Weymouth in southwest England, was living in a rented house in Limerick city when he went missing on August 15th.

Intensive checks of hospitals, bank accounts and international missing lists led to no trace of him.

Garda Insp John Scanlon said police were renewing their appeal for information on the first anniversary of his disappearance. "He presents to us a difficult case because we haven't been able to trace any known living relatives. He was the only child of two elderly parents, both who are now deceased. But people aren't just forgotten, it's part of how we do business."

He added: "We've enlisted the help of the UK authorities and Interpol and inquiries continue throughout the world."

Mr Fletcher is described as around 1.7m (5ft 10in) and of strong build. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

He had been living in Ireland for around four years, working at a McDonald's take-away in Tipperary and the Dell computer factory in Limerick.

The last person to see him was his landlord in Limerick city, who found his bedroom and possessions undisturbed.

Insp Scanlon said it was possible someone in England had important information about Mr Fletcher.

"Perhaps they might know a family member or be aware of something other than what's generally known about him." - (PA)
