A murderer who skipped bail before his guilty verdict was delivered handed himself in to police in Northern Ireland today.

James Meehan absconded on Tuesday, a day before he, his wife Brenda and his stepson Sean Devenney were found guilty of murdering Derry man James McFadden outside his home two years ago.

Meehan, who is originally from Kells in Co Meath, was jailed for life in his absence. He was found guilty of the murder as a primary party and his wife and stepson were both found guilty of murder as secondary parties following a 10-week long trial at Derry Crown Court.

The three were convicted of murdering Mr McFadden (42), who died when he sustained a ruptured heart during an assault in the early hours of May 5th, 2007.

Mr McFadden died after being attacked outside his Moyolla Drive home after he, his wife and children had attended a wedding reception in Co Donegal at which the Meehans and Devenney were also guests.
