LIVERPOOL - The funeral service for the Rev Christopher Gray, the young vicar stabbed to death in the grounds of his church last month, was held yesterday just yards from the spot where he met his death.

The Bishop of Liverpool, the Right Rev David Sheppard, told mourners that Mr Gray was "a centre of resistance" to the destructive forces of violence, fatalism and despair.

Mr Gray (32) bled to death after being stabbed in the grounds of St Margaret's Pardish Church, Anfield, on August 13th. A 31 year old man has been charged with his murder.
