The Group of Seven rich nations' meeting in London from today will address the question of the Chinese yuan's exchange rate, French Finance Minister Mr Herve Gaymard said today.

China will be taking part in some of the talks of the G7 group, which comprises the United States, Canada, Britain, Japan, Germany, France and Italy.

In the run-up to the meeting, European and US officials have urged China to let the yuan strengthen to share the burden of dollar weakness. It is currently pegged to the dollar.

Mr Gaymard said the dollar's weakness was due to US deficits, and said US officials seemed to have started to realise that Washington had to cut its budget and trade deficits.
