A conviction and £13,000 fine against the GAA, for allegedly having operated a dirty cafeteria under the Hogan Stand at Croke Park in 1996, have been overturned by Judge Dominic Lynch in the Circuit Civil Court.
The court had been told that the Eastern Health Board had successfully prosecuted Concessions Ireland Ltd as proprietor of the cafeteria business and had then prosecuted the GAA also as "proprietor of the business".
Mr Gerry Charleton, counsel for the GAA, said yesterday the Supreme Court had held that the GAA, while being the proprietor of the premises, was not in law the proprietor of the food business and had awarded costs to the sports organisation.
