A FORMER Wicklow GAA county chairman and county player, Mr Bobby Dignam, ended up in Arklow court yesterday, after Wicklow had been beaten by Offaly in the Leinster championship.

The court heard that Mr Dignam and a friend travelled down to Arklow after the game and ended up arguing and fighting over why Wicklow lost. Garda M. Kavanagh said the defendant was fighting with another man and became very abusive and violent when asked to go home.

Mr Dignam (52) from Railway House, Rathnew, was before the court on public order offences, charged with failing to comply with the directions of the gardai and with being drunk on Main Street, Arklow, on June 16th.

Mr Fachtna Whittle, solicitor, said his client had a lot of drink consumed and apologised for his behaviour which was totally out of character. The case against Mr Dignam, who has previous convictions, was adjourned to July 21st for a probation officer's report.
