GAA welcomes attendance figures

It may only be a modest increase, but in today’s economic climate any upturn at all is to be welcomed. As such, the news that GAA attendances rose by 4,000 this year is good news.

GAA president Christy Cooney revealed that combined total attendance figures for the two championships showed an increase from 1,519,000 to 1,523,000 against 2008.

And, while there may have been more football games actually played this year, the fact that more fans came through the gates was warmly received by Cooney.

“Confirmation that our figures have not only held up but increased, comes as great news and further re-affirms the popularity of our games after what was a hugely entertaining season,” he said.
