Galway murder accused granted bail

A woman accused of the murder of a man who died following a stabbing in Galway has been granted bail.

A woman accused of the murder of a man who died following a stabbing in Galway has been granted bail.

Maura Thornton (30) with an address at Upper Salthill, Galway, had been remanded in custody last week after she was charged with murdering Kevin Joyce (59), a Co Mayo native, at an apartment in Salthill on July 31st.

A postmortem carried out on Mr Joyce’s body revealed he had been stabbed several times.

Ms Thornton appeared at Dublin District Court today where Judge Denis McLoughlin heard that bail had been granted to her at a sitting of the High Court in Cloverhill yesterday.

Defence counsel Mr Adrian MacLynn told Judge McLoughlin he did not have a certified copy of that court order.

Judge McLoughlin remanded the defendant in custody with consent to bail to appear again at Dublin District Court on August 22nd.

Ms Thornton, wearing a black jacket, purple top and grey trousers, was not required to speak and remained silent during the brief hearing.
