Galway Corporation and the Western Health Board hope to be in a position to lift the health warning on the city's drinking water by this afternoon, if the results of samples taken yesterday prove negative for the presence of contaminants.
A corporation spokesman stressed yesterday that any contamination of the city's supply was "extremely slight" and samples taken on Sunday and Monday were clear of any bacteria.
The local authority and the health board have been testing the water quality since Friday, when the public alert was issued. Since then, members of the public have been advised not to drink tap water.
