New Delhi - Ms Sonia Gandhi was overwhelmingly re-elected president of India's opposition Congress Party yesterday, crushing the challenge of a little-known dissident.
A senior official of the troubled centrist group said the widow of the former prime minister, Rajiv Gandhi, won all but 180 of the 7,767 ballots cast by party delegates around the country on Sunday. The former party vice-president, Mr Jitendra Prasada, took just 94 votes.
