It happened in Assaroe Road in Ballyshannon when a small white car hit the 18-year-old female pedestrian at 3.20am. The car sped off and was later found abandoned a short distance away. The victim is from the area and had been walking home from a night out with a group of friends, who alerted the emergency services.

Sgt Liam Gillespie in Ballyshannon said no one else was injured but the group was left "severely shocked and traumatised". He said no contact had been made with the driver but it was suspected that more than one passenger was in the car.
