A Garda superintendent who was found by the Morris tribunal to have orchestrated hoax explosive finds in Donegal has responded to a letter from the Minister for Justice, Mr McDowell.
The Minister wrote to Supt Kevin Lennon and provided him with a copy of the 500-page tribunal report, inviting a response to its findings, said a Department of Justice spokeswoman.
Supt Lennon was given until yesterday to make submissions.
His response was received by the Department in the last week, and the Department is considering his response, said the spokeswoman.
The tribunal's report found that Supt Lennon and Det Garda Noel McMahon had orchestrated hoax Donegal explosive finds to boost their careers, and offered the tribunal "a tissue of lies".
Det Noel McMahon has already resigned, and two other officers have taken early retirement.
