A High Court action for damages taken by a Garda firearms instructor who alleged he was shot and injured during a simulated bank robbery at the Garda Training College in Templemore, Co Tipperary, has been settled.

Garda Cornelius Teehan (46), Dunkerrin, Roscrea, Co Tipperary, alleged there had been an attempted cover-up of the incident by the authorities in the college and he had sought aggravated and punitive damages arising from the way his complaint was dealt with.

He alleged he was injured in the right thigh by metal fragments when a blank shot was fired from a Tauras pistol by one of the gardaí "protecting" the "bank" during the training exercise.

As the case was about to resume yesterday, Mr Bruce Antoniotti SC, for Garda Teehan, told Mr Justice O'Donovan the matter had been settled and proceedings could be struck out.
