Gardaí investigating the murder of a 74-year-old pensioner in his home in Cork city earlier this week have issued an appeal to a man they believe may have valuable information about what happened to contact them. Barry Roche, Southern Correspondent, reports.

The man contacted gardaí anonymously on Wednesday morning about the death of Gussie Hornibrook, whose body was found with his hands and legs tied at his home in Gurranabraher, on Tuesday.

The man rang Gurranabraher Garda station at 9.55am and spoke to Det Garda Derek Mulcahy. He promised to ring back later on Wednesday but failed to do so.

Supt Con Cadogan of Garranabraher Garda station yesterday appealed to the man to contact them again, saying gardaí believe he has "very valuable information". The man could ring again in confidence and gardaí would treat him with great sensitivity, said Supt Cadogan.
