Gardai have arrested a man following an attempted armed robbery on a Dublin shop last night.

The raider entered the Marino Mart shop just before 9 p.m. last night armed with a gun and threatened staff, demanding the contents of the till.

A member of the public who was passing the shop at the time of the incident saw the man holding a gun to a female customer's head and immediately alerted gardai who happened to be in the area.

A detective and a uniformed garda disarmed the raider who is now being held in Clontarf garda station under Section 30 of the Offences of the State Act.
