Two gardai have been found not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court of forging interview notes and committing perjury in the trial of a man suspected of being involved in the Omagh bombing.

Trial judge Desmond Hogan directed the jury to find the men not guilty after he ruled that the allegedly forged interview notes and technical analysis of them were inadmissible.

The judge found that the prosecution could not establish a chain of custody for the original interview notes, or the document analysis.

Detective Gardai John Fahy (53), of Glaslough, Co Monaghan and Detective Garda Liam Donnelly (50), of Cavan Town denied the charges of perjury, forgery and using a forged document.
