The driver of a bus which fatally injured a five-year-old girl in Dublin on Sunday has been interviewed by gardaí.
Dublin Bus is also conducting its own investigation into the circumstances of the child's death.
The child, from Snowdrop Walk, Darndale, was hit by a bus as she attempted to cross the Malahide Road. She was on a bicycle when the crash occurred close to the Darndale roundabout at 5.30 p.m.
Gardaí said she was removed to Temple Street Hospital. She died a short time later having sustained serious head injuries.
A spokeswoman for Dublin Bus said the accident was tragic. The company extended its sympathies to the child's family. The spokeswoman added counselling was available to all staff involved in accidents, but she was unable to say if the driver was continuing with his duties.
Meanwhile, gardaí in Ballinasloe, Co Galway, are investigating a fatal accident which occurred in the town at around 10.40 a.m. yesterday. A trailer became detached from a 4-wheel drive vehicle and struck a 72-year-old pedestrian.
The man was taken to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe, where he died a short time later.
A 66-year-old man was killed in Co Kilkenny when the jeep he was driving collided with an articulated lorry on the New Ross to Waterford Road at 12.30 p.m. The collision occurred close to the village of Glenmore. The dead man, from Noreville, Inistioge, Co Kilkenny, was pronounced dead at Waterford Regional Hospital.
