A 79-YEAR-OLD man was arrested at his home in Dublin yesterday and taken to Drogheda Garda station to answer 100 separate allegations of indecent and sexual assault dating back a number of years.
The man, who has no criminal convictions, is alleged to have carried out the assaults in Louth.
Gardaí began their investigation about 18 months ago, and yesterday was the first time the man was questioned.
Gardaí from Drogheda arrested him at 8.30am yesterday at his apartment and took him to Drogheda Garda station. The apartment was also searched, but gardaí did not find anything relevant to their investigation.
Garda sources said there have been 100 separate complaints made about the man, and each one was being put to him yesterday.
The man’s response to the allegations will be included in the investigation file which gardaí are currently preparing for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The man was released shortly before 9pm last night.
