Gardaí have named the man who died in a five-truck collision just outside Fermoy Co Cork yesterday morning.

He was Slawomir Siwonia (33) of Anach Cuain, Dublin Road, Thurles, Co Tipperary.

Mr Siwonia died when the truck he was driving was involved in a five-truck crash on the N8 north of Fermoy shortly before 7.00 am.

His truck, loaded with zinc ore, was travelling downhill towards Cork when it went out of control and hit four other trucks travelling in the opposite direction.

It is believed the truck may have lost its grip due to the wet road surface after a long dry spell.

Three other lorry drivers were taken to Cork University Hospital where they are seriously injured.
