Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an elderly man in Cavan town yesterday evening.
A garda spokesman said an incident is alleged to have occurred in Bridge Street car park in the town at 6.30 p.m., between a number of youths and the man who is believed to have been in his 70s.
An ambulance was called and the man was taken to Cavan General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The scene has been preserved for technical examination and a State Pathologist has been called in to carry out a post mortem examination.
