Palestinian police have released a suspect in the kidnapping of three Britons in the Gaza Strip, the militant al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades said.

Ala al-Hams, a local leader of the brigades, was arrested on Tuesday for questioning in the abduction last week of human rights worker Kate Burton and her parents.

The three Britons were held for two days and freed last Friday. Hundreds of Palestinians crossed into Egypt yesterday after militants stole two bulldozers and, in a show of force against the Palestinian Authority, smashed through the wall separating Gaza and Egypt.

The militants breached the wall hours after they blocked the official border crossing and took over government buildings in protest at their colleague's detention.
