The Environmental Protection Agency and the Departments of Agriculture and Health should organise public hearings on proposals for the testing of genetically modified sugar beet plants, according to Cllr Joe Higgins. He said the Socialist Party would raise the issue of genetic engineering of plants and crops as "an important issue in the forthcoming general election".
