GAA: Meath's Graham Geraghty will miss the remainder of the 2011 Championship after picking up an Achilles tendon injury in training.
Geraghty, 38, returned to the Royal County colours this season as a substitute against Kildare and had a goal controversially ruled out on the way to defeat to the Lilywhites.
After that game, he received a kick on his Achilles and, despite being included in the squad to face Louth, has not played since.
The veteran will undergo surgery on his injury and has indicated he would welcome a recall next season, having whetted his appetite for inter-county football again.
"If I was asked back next year I'd go in. This has only made me more determined,' he told The Sun. "After all the controversy of returning, to then only come on for a short while against Kildare and get one touch of a ball you would feel there is some unfinished business.
“It is extremely frustrating. As far as I can remember I have never missed a game because of injury during my career.
“So for it to happen now when you were really looking forward to getting going again with Meath is hard to take. I was enjoying it and felt I had been going well in training.
“A lot of people will probably say "that's it now, you're past it" or ‘that's old age’ or whatever but you can't do anything about that.”
