Germany's Fed Cup team are donating $25,000 to the victims of the September 11th attacks in New York and Washington, the country's tennis federation said today.

Germany accepted a late invitation to play in the eight-nation finals in Madrid after the Americans pulled out because of security concerns after the attacks.

"With the help of this donation, our team wants to express its solidarity with the victims of the attacks," German captain Markus Schur said.

The cheque will be handed over to a US representative at the German national championships from December 9th-16th, the statement said.
