Gilligan refused bail

Mr John Gilligan, who is facing drug-trafficking charges, was refused bail atWoolwich Crown Court in London yesterday.

At the 50-minute hearing, Mr Justice Rucker refused the bail application and remanded Mr Gilligan in custody to Belmarsh high-security prison in London untilAugust 14th.

Mr Gilligan was arrested at Heathrow Airport in October last year as he attemptedto board a flight to Amsterdam. Customs and Excise officers found £330,000concealed in his suircase. He is facing charges under Section 49 (1) of the DrugTrafficking Act, 1994, which relate to the concealment of money, directly or indirectly,representing his proceeds of drug-trafficking.

He is also charged under Section 50 (1) of the same Act that he concealed money,in whole or in part, representing another person's drug-trafficking. A third charge
