Garth McGimpsey, one of Ireland's most successful amateur golfers, has protested his innocence after cocaine valued at more than £100,000 (148,000) was sent to his home in Bangor, Co Down.
Mr McGimpsey (48), was questioned by police yesterday week after Customs and Excise officers, with assistance from the PSNI, seized the drugs.
He was released on police bail pending further inquiries.
Mr McGimpsey told The Irish Times yesterday that he had been advised not to speak to the media about the incident, but that he would be willing to comment when the matter was finalised.
He added, however, that he was innocent, and that his innocence would emerge in time.
Mr McGimpsey was due to receive an MBE in Buckingham Palace next week but has postponed his trip to London pending the conclusion of this case.
