Washington - The US Democratic presidential candidate, Mr Al Gore, has opened a seven-point lead over the Republican, Mr George W. Bush, in the latest Reuters/Zogby poll released yesterday - the first time his lead has been outside the statistical margin of error.
The poll of 1,005 people who said they were likely to vote in the November 7th presidential election found the vice-president leading the Texas governor by 46 to 39 per cent. The Green Party candidate, Mr Ralph Nader, had 4 per cent while the Reform Party candidate, Mr Pat Buchanan, scored 1 per cent. Last week Mr Gore had led by six points. Mr Gore had drawn level with Mr Bush among men while retaining a 15-point advantage among women.
